Guangzhou Profile

China's largest Import & Export trade fair, called Canton Fair, is held twice a year in Spring and Autumn at Guangzhou City. The fair was inaugurated in the Spring of 1957.

Guangzhou Profile
Situated in South China and adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao, Guangzhou has another three names - "City of Flower", "City of Rice Ear" and "City of Rams", covering a total area of 7434.4 square kilometers.
Guangzhou governs 10 administrative districts and 2 country-level cities and has a permanent population of over 10 million. Its economic strength is next only to Shanghai and Beijing, ranking the third China. Guangzhou is an international metropolis combining the cultures between the East and West and a window of China's reforms and opening to the outside world as well as one of the most vigorous tourist cities in China. Guangzhou is one of the first group of 24 Famous Historical and Cultural Cities in China and China's Top Tourist Cities. In 2001, it was granted by the International Garden Association the title of "International Garden City". Guangzhou receives more than 60 million tourists from home and abroad each year.

Climate : subtropical monsoon
Spring (from March to Mid-May) : The temperature and humidity are rising, touristes are advised to wear thin coats or sweaters. Average temperature and humidity are 23 degree celsius and 82% respectively.
Summer (from May to Mid-September) : The temperature reaches as high as 33 degree celsius, and the humidity increases up to 90%. Tourists are advised to bring raincoats or umbrellas.
Autumn (from Late September to Early December) : Tourists are advised to wear sweaters and light overcoats. Average temperature and humidity are 23 degree celsius and 72% respectively.
Winter (from Mid December to Late February) : The weather is cool, so thick overcoats are sometimes needed to wear. Average temperature and humidity are 17 degree celsius and 72% respectively.

Geography
Guangzhou covers a total area of 7434.4 square kilometers, with a downtown area of 1443 square meters. Now guangzhou governs 10 districts like Yuexiu, Liwan, Nansha, Haizhu, Tianhe, Baiyun, Huangpu, Luo gang Panyu and Huadu as well as 2 country level satellite cities : Conghua & Zengcheng.

Guangzhou Custom
Guangzhou is also a famous town in South China for its rich and colorful folkways, local custom and conditions. On the base of the traditional festival like Spring Festival, National Day, Labor Day, we also have 8 Cantonese characteristic holiday : Flower Street in the chinese New Year, Lanterns Festival, Pineapple Temple Festival (in the Feb), Duanwu Dragon Boat Festival, Conghua & Zengcheng Litchi Festival, Chongyang Festival, Chinese Travel & Art Festival International Fod Festival, Guangzhou Internaitonal Food Festival, and etc.

Duanwu
The Duanwu Dragon Boat Festival On 5th, May of lunar calendar, which is right time to experience atmosphere of the Dragon Boat Day during the Duanwu Festival. In summer, you may see hundreds of dragon boats competing for teh championship on the Pearl River, which attracts thousands of persons to visit.

Mid-autumn
Cantonese like to sit together in the open air till deep night, have delicious dinner, eat moon cakes and enjoy the beautiful bright moon that is taken as a symbol of family reunion.

Double Nine Festival (Chongyang Festival)
It is Cantonese Customs to climb mountains, and people will choose Baiyun Mountain, Yeuxiu Mountain in the eve, and spend all night there.

Lunar New Year
The mos important Chinese holiday is Chinese Lunar New Year, which is known in China as Spring Festival. The festival in the lunar New Year and is the West's Chrismas and New Year's Eve rolled into one, from sun up to sun down, this is a time when the whole country throws itself into celebrating and eating. Children particularly enjoy the custom of receiving red envelopes. The envelopes contain gifts of money and are distributed by family elders married relatives.

Lantern Festival (Cantonese Valentine Day)
Lantern Festival is the most important feast during the Spring Festival. On the Lantern Festival, people decorate houses and streets with various lanterns and red streamers for watch and amusement, hence it derives the name "Lantern Festival".
